Try, but you only ever treat the symptoms.

Hi dudes!

Ehh, I'm just journaling so that you don't have to look at the massive space-consuming survey I posted in my last journal.

Well, I suppose, while I'm here...

Things are swell. I've decided that as long as I have something to look forward to, I'm happier. Now that the clinic I work at has successfully moved to a new building in another county, you'd think I have less to do. But because I'm "boss" I have to do exciting things like annual performance reviews. Hooray! And worry about how to schedule 5,000 children for the swine flu vaccine. SCREW YOU, swine flu. Screw you. In the FACE. Mmm. Bacon.

XD

No, really, I'm good. I am going to drawr tonight! While I multitask: doing laundry, possibly dyeing my hair, updating LiveJournal, poking fun at GarageBand, waiting for Matt to come home, finalizing my travel plans, and listening to the rain.

***

Dudes. This is only my 4th dA journal this year?! What's wrong with me!

***

I'm rather scatterbrained right now. I'm probably pregnant. ;)

***

What's with the asterisks?

***

THUNDER!

***

Things MoMo are excited about:
1) Tomorrow. Just because. And that's rare for a Monday.
2) MASSIVE TRIP planned for 10/7 - 10/19: NYC, PA, and camping.
3) Fall weather.
4) Hmm. There's more, I promise.
5) The weather radio just went off--that means severe weather. Tornado watch until 4AM? Ok. XD

Peace out, yo.
~Mo

Oh come on...2 posts doesn't count as an art dump.

I know, it's practically twice as many artworks as the entire year... you should know me by now. XD

Since :iconconversewearingjedi: , my partner in Miggs & MoMo-style crime, moved to PA last week, I promised her a few things. 1) I would actually go on my computer in a consistent fashion, 2) stay updated on Facebook, 3) alert her immediately (before-I-tell-my-parents immediately) when I become preggers, and *most* importantly, 4) POST MORE ON dA.

So hopefully everyone will benefit from this--meaning I will be timely on responding to shiz... not that I'll announce to everyone I'm preggers before telling my rents. Ha.

Here's a nice, horrendously long survey from Jedi that I'm finally going to sit down and do before sleepy time:

102 Questions for a DeviantARTIST

01.] What is your pen name?
ShockWave742

02.] What made you choose this name?
ShockWave = my favorite roller coaster of all-time (may you rest in peace); 7 and 42 = some of my (many) favorite numbers. 42 became a favorite number when I rode ShockWave that many times in one day.

03.] Do you use PC or Mac?
Both, but mine's a Mac.

04.] What programs do you use most often?
Firefox, iTunes, and now GarageBand.

05.] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Mouse, but I'd really like a tablet in the future. Outlining in Photoshop while using a touch pad mouse = frustration.

06.] What color or color combinations do you find yourself using most often?
I tend to like reds and browns for hair, and of course I like blue... my favorite would have to be using multiple shades of gray and adding an accent. Like blue. XD

07.] What part of a picture do you put most effort into?
Usually the face? If it doesn't look like who I want it to be, then I probably won't want to finish it.

08.] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
WAY. TOO. LONG. XD

09.] How long does it take you to write something?
Depends on what I'm writing. If it's lyrics, things sometimes just tumble out and wind up fitting.

10.] Do you keep your rough drafts for sketches?
Yep.

11.] Do you keep your rough drafts for writing?
Ehh... I was a loser who never really did rough drafts. I tended to keep changing things as I went.

12.] What font do you use most often?
Hm. I forget what it's called, but whatever is in my work email signature. It's fun.

13.] When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?
Heh, whatever it's set on. Which means I have no idea.

14.] Do you do anything else when you're drawing/writing?
Snack, have the TV or music on quiet in the background, sometimes I need complete silence.

15.] Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?
Not many, obviously! Maybe in the 1-3 range, and that's pushing it.

16.] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Sketchbook or computer paper.

17.] What kind of paper do you use for rough sketches and drafts?
Same.

18.] How long does it take you to ink something?
Oooh, I love inking... just a face would probably take 10-15"; an entire body, 15-20"?

19.] Do you do comics, or fan comics?
Miggs & MoMo SO counts.

20.] Do you like comics? Are they fun to make?
They ARE fun to make! I have a ton of ideas for comics. I don't read a ton, though.

21.] Have you ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Sure have!

22.] Did it get published?
Yes--Sports Illustrated for Kids, baby. A picture of a basketball player. Funny story: My now-hubby owned the issue that the picture was in! We were only 11 or 12 at the time, and obviously we didn't know each other yet, but still. It was fun to find while cleaning out his room a few years ago before we moved in together.

23.] Who are your favorite artists?
Jedi, Phen, Kari, Vieve, IV, etc.

24.] Do you like anime/manga? If so, what are your favorite series?
I do like anime/manga, but I'm not so much in the know. The only series I've read was Death Note and I LOVED it. I'd love to read more, but it takes me 512 years to read anything. ;D

25.] Do you like cartoons/comics? If so, what are your favorite series?
Sure--my favorite comic would have to be Zits, favorite cartoons would have to be Daria, TMNT (old-school style), and would Family Guy count? Oooh, Watchmen. WATCHMEN. Read it. And then drool over how well the movie followed the book... except for the end, hehe.

26.] Any artists that you wish you could draw like?
I'd like to develop my own style--right now it's a mix of whatever I see or like. Class helped me, but I have to do a lot more drawing to shape my own style. It might be awhile since before being introduced to anime/manga I primarily did realism/portraits and that was about it.

27.] Are their any authors you wish you could write like?
Not really, but my penpal is a pretty amazing writer.

28.] Do you read a lot of books?
If I read fast. I'm working on it, though!

29.] Did you ever buy a book to inspire or teach you to draw?
You bet!

30.] Any video games you enjoy?
I enjoy playing: Tetris (PS2 and Nintendo 64 are my favorite versions), Tetris Attack (SNES), Mario!!!, Mario Party, Monkeyball. I enjoy watching people play: Zelda-Ocarina of Time. Duuuuude.

31.] Any favorite characters from video games?
Link and the crew.

32.] Do you have a favorite writer?
Not particularly.

33.] Any books you really enjoy?
Harry Potter series, Flowers for Algernon, Pierced by a Sword, and currently Battle Royale.

34.] Do you draw fanart?
'Tis one of my favorite things to do.

35.] Do you listen to music while you draw/write?
Sure do, most of the time.

36.] Any recommended songs?
YOU CAN'T ASK ME A QUESTION LIKE THAT. There's far too many to list. <--AGREED, Jedi.

37.] Any other art websites that you really enjoy?
I can't handle more than one at a time. I'm not a good multitasker. ;D

38.] Are there any websites that you go to everyday?
The usual sequence of websites: Hotmail, Facebook, mlb.com, my MySpace fanpage for Lyle Overbay, dA, and my online banking. I'm probably forgetting something.

39.] What is your dream website like?
Good question.

40.] Do you like your own art?
I do, but I'd love to improve on tons of things. I wish I had the ability to draw without reference (once in a blue moon this happens) and to know proportions better. And I definitely wish I could draw fast and without over-analyzing.

41.] What do you enjoy watching on television?
HGTV. I'm a nerd. And the occasional House, ER, Grey's Anatomy, M*A*S*H, Discovery Health, the Weather Channel, etc. I've also been known to have "24" marathons.

42.] Favorite celebrity?
Tom Hanks?

43.] Favorite color?
Royal blue, orange, many other shades of blue, and warming up to brown. Technically it's not a color per se, but I love white. And silver.

44.] Favorite food?
Teriyaki beef jerky, pumpkin seeeeeeeds, Dew, gosh this is one of those "Favorite Song" questions. I can't pick just one.

45.] Favorite drink?
Dew. Straight up. COLD.

46.] Do you like to go shopping? If yes, where? And for what?
I love shopping, but not like Lisa Turtle on Saved by the Bell. I'm not one who needs 500 pairs of shoes or 725 purses. Target is a dangerous, dangerous place.

47.] Can you cook?
I can.

48.] Any devices you use often for email? Any electronic pets?
I just have Hotmail and my work email. No e-pets.

49.] Are you tech-savvy?
More than my mom?

50.] Do you want to become a professional artist/writer?
I wouldn't complain if that happened, but I'm just fine being Nurse MoMo. XD

51.] Are there any other jobs you're interested in?
Rock star, of course. Who wouldn't.

52.] Any other hobbies or skills besides drawing?
Singing and harmonizing mediocre-ly, random sports, roller coasters, the occasional musical instrument, storm watching.

53.] Do you like to watch movies?
Just a bit.

54.] What's your favorite movie?
Donnie Darko, Transformers, Watchmen, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Pay it Forward, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, A Walk to Remember, etc.

55.] Have you ever entered an art contest, here at DeviantART or otherwise?
Just one or two on dA.

56.] When did you start drawing seriously?
I've drawn since I was young; "seriously" in grade school maybe? When people started asking me to drawr things for them.

57.] Do you use references? If so, for what?
I browse through friends' work to get inspired (or go through their sketchbooks with them ^^), occasionally I'll have someone pose for me.

58.] Are you a subscriber? If so, are you a beta-tester?
I used to have a subby but I let it expire. It is nice to have though... *wink-wink* for a Christmas present, hehe.

59.] Do you have a lot of net friends?
Not really.

60.] Do you have a lot of friends that also draw?
A few.

61.] What time of the day do you usually go online?
After work, right before bed. Randomly on weekends.

62.] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
Gosh, a chat room? It's been ages.

63.] Do you have your own computer?
Yes!

64.] What would you say to the person that you admire?
You ROCK. Thanks for your continued inspiration.

65.] Does your mind wander when you draw/write?
Defini... what was the question?

66.] Have you drawn poorly because you think too much?
Maybe? Sometimes I over-do the inking or the shading, etc.

67.] Do you have any friends who are professional artists?
Well, she doesn't have her own studio... yet.

68.] Where do you often hang out?
The living room, work. Eew.

69.] Are there any popular artists that you don't like much?
Probably, but I don't pay too much attention.

70.] Are there any situations in which you really don't like being a DeviantARTIST?
When people start up stupid, offensive commenting. THEN JUST DON'T COMMENT. Write a note instead.

71.] How about situations that make you love it?
Keeping in touch with awesome artists, getting inspired by them, and exchanging music. XD

72.] What's the one thing that makes you grateful that the internet exists?
You can literally find ANYTHING. Keeping in touch with friends who live far is a bonus.

73.] Is there anything out there that makes you wish the internet didn't exist?
Once and awhile identity theft scares me.

74.] What's your first Deviation?
Hah, "O'Connell." Who I just recently drew and posted.

75.] Any art you did prior to that?
Fo sho.

76.] Has your style changed a lot since joining DeviantART?
Not sure? Probably!

77.] If it has changed, it what ways?
Still developing my style. I'd like to say I've at least improved.

78.] Have you experienced artist's block before?
Of course!

79.] If so, how do you usually get out of it?
Look through old stuff or friends' stuffs. Or do something inspiring.

80.] What do you do when you can't get out it?
See above.

81.] Any Deviants that have influenced you a lot?
I may or may not have taken a class taught by a Deviant. ^^

82.] What made you want to start drawing/writing.
I came out of the womb with a pencil in hand? Oww. Sorry Mom.

83.] What made you want to join DeviantART?
Jedi made me do it! :D And that's a good thing.

84.] Has anything ever made you want to quit DevianART?
Yes.

85.] What do you think about netiquette?
I'd just like to say that I HATE the phrase/abbreviation "ur." I can't explain it.

86.] Have you ever been spammed or trolled?
Don't think so.

87.] Ever thought about quitting art all together?
Not really, it's a talent that I'll hopefully never lose.

88.] If so, why?
-

89.] Do you upload high quality versions of your Deviations, or do you post low quality versions?
High?

90.] Do you have custom CSS? If so, did you make it yourself?
Nope--no idea now! Well, I can bold and italicize things sometimes.

91.] Do you have good vision?
Decent, but I wear contacts and sometimes my glasses. I'm not totally blind without them but you wouldn't want me driving!

92.] If you can get anyone's autograph, whose would you get?
Tom Hanks? I have Lyle's. XD

93.] What would you say to that person when he or she gives you an autograph?
Probably nothing comprehendible. I tend to freeze up.

94.] Do you like to draw on Oekaki BBS?
I have no idea what that is.

95.] Do you have a job?
Yes: Clinical and Nursing Supervisor at Forest View. Many many responsibilities. Some days, I wish I was just a plain old nurse again. :D

96.] Did you take art in school? If so, did you do well? Are you still taking it?
Yes, for two years maybe? I did fine. School was a long time ago. Because I'm old.

97.] Have you taken art lessons outside of a school setting?
Yes I have!

98.] Have you ever drawn something just because it was the cool thing to do -- the hip new fad?
I don't think I draw often (or fast) enough to keep up with art fads, but yes I've drawn fanart.

99.] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
There are too many to single out, but I'll go with "It was always worth it, that's the part I seem to hide" by Modest Mouse.

100.] Do you present yourself differently online than you do in your real life?
Not online, but on the phone: "Oh, hi Mom!"

101.] What's your goal now?
To reduce my stress level, stop worrying so much about what people think of me (especially at work), and to get in shape/stay healthy so we can have a child. Damn, when did I grow up.

102.] What do you have to say to yourself?
I stayed up later than I was s';posed to. Bed time!!!

Just look at me, silly me, I'm as happy as can be

Yo.

Dudes. Sorry for the massive comment-dump that occurred sometime within the last few weeks. That's what happens when I finally get motivated for 2 consecutive hours. As you might be able to guess, 2 consecutive hours of my time is hard to find. Sometimes. Maybe. Hah. I'm sleepy and nonsensical. <--I wasn't even sure that was a word, but I'm thrilled that it is.

Yep, so I've been busy with, oh, those little things in life like buying a house and getting a promotion. And... well, that's enough for now, I think. ;D

I've set up one of the rooms in my house as an office / art / music room. And guess what? I haven't drawn in it yet. I need to actually organize the art supplies, I suppose. All artworkings have been done in the living room on the couch, as usual. Maybe I shouldn't break old traditions. :D

Jedi's Anime/Manga II class begins Friday; therefore, I hope to be posting a few good pieces. I still should probably post some sketchies from the last class(es) I attended, but they'll probably be scrapped eventually since they're mostly unfinished. So it's not that I haven't been drawing, honest!

Grr. Stupid musical indecisiveness! <--Wow, another word I'm surprised I spelled right, being sleep-deprived and all. Good music usually = good artistic motivation. Maybe it's time to put iTunes on random. OR... maybe it's time for bed! I'm on the verge of rambling anyhow.

Good night.

Your mom.

Love,
~Mo, RN

Wait, since when was it July?! And could someone please just give me the entire month of August off or something? That'd be sweet.

OMG.

What is with me. I haven't posted anything in over HALF A YEAR. It's not that I haven't artworked--just ask Jedi who's hanging in her room--but the things I have done are random paintings and other things that either I a) won't post or b) don't feel like posting. :P Thankfully, I should be getting into a better drawing rhythm. Soon. See, I drew a lot (or at least a lot more) when I took Jedi's Anime/Manga class (which ROCKED, btw), and OH! I guess I do have things to post! I created an OC, sorta, more or less for class, but I may just elaborate on him. :D Now that I have some ideas and finally learned how to draw a *smidge* faster than in the past, I hope to post more frequently. OH! And on a small, teensy side note... Matt and I bought a house! Therefore, I hope to have both some time off and a new place for motivation. Hooray!

I'm thinking of making April my high-inspiration month for artworks. I'm dubbing April "Heroes Month" and plan to do a string of drawings relating to my "heroes." This ought to be interesting. I'm pumped.

Of course, there's still that list of ideas... who knows what kind of order I'll follow, but it will all tie in eventually. I'm confident I'll actually be chipping away at the list soon. Be on the lookout!

Sorry again for not paying attention to your artworks--I've seen amazing stuffs but haven't commented on anything for ages. Please don't take offense... this should be nothing new coming from me anyway :) Yay for still being a procrastinator!

Happy 2009!

<3 MoMo

PS - I know I desperately need a new DevID.

Hang on a sec... CHUBBY KITTY!

Ok. I'm better. Sorry.

I finally found that one piece of paper shoved in one of my nearly-empty sketchbooks titled "Updated Drawing Idea List: 04-05-08." Yeah. About that. Apparently it needs to be updated at least once more before the end of the year. Here goes. Oh! And there are a bunch of ideas that I know I'm never going to draw--I either lack the skill to bring them to life or I've become uninterested in the subject matter--so I'll throw them out there should anyone who is interested stumble across my lonely page and want to put them onto paper.

For starters, the new list:

Updated Drawing List of Ideas :: 12-10-08
(1) "Flat-Out Burglary//Separated at Birth"
(2) "Tip-Up//Fish Finder"
(3) "The Dashboard Melted..."
(4) "3IC (3rdInningCrisis)"
(5) "P.(M.)S."
(6) "Wishlist//Last Goodnight"
(7) "2nd to None"
(8) "Everybody Lies"
(9) "Let's Compare Scars"
(10) "Celebrate the Irony"
(11) "Where I Am"
(12) "Dashboard Confessional"
(13) "It's Never Lupus"
(14) "Oh Snap//You're An Idiot"

Yes, I am aware that there are two different things with "dashboard" in the title. Yes, I am aware that there are are at least 3 House-isms used for titles... those may or may not involve one or more House characters.

I'm kind of over my urge to draw Transformers stuffs. One or two no-so-intricate works might sneak their way into my gallery; I just can't see myself doing a good job with anything mecha. Not my forte. But in case anyone is curious, I'll post my random ideas. By all means, if someone has the genius and/or the ability and wants to draw them, I'd be thrilled: (1) Remember the Mountain Dew vending machine that turned Decepticon? The Dewcepticon? I would love to see that thing start flinging cans of Dew at Bumblebee. Being a hero, Bee would catch them, crack them open, and hand one to me. (2) Since Jedi and I love to travel, I envisioned a comic strip with us sitting in the backseat of a car having a conversation along the lines of "Gas prices are too high." "Flying is too expensive." "The train takes forever." In the last frame, you finally see the "beeotch" air freshener and a disco ball hanging from the rearview--"This could work" would be the last line. Yeah, I'm a nerd. (3) Bumblebee, in car-form, in the last scene of the movie with Sam and what's-her-face making out on his windshield: All of a sudden he flips the windshield wipers on and flings them both off. I would've clapped if that happened in the movie. Prime and Hide would be in the background snickering and saying "awkwaaaard!" (4) OK. Everyone knows the part where Ironhide jumps to dodge a missle or something and blasts off in slow-mo and creates that orgasmic shockwave (no pun intended), right? I'd love to see someone take a screenshot of that, slap a suit and tie on him, give him a briefcase, and have him saying, "Bye, kids! Have a good day at school!" and call it "A Day in the Life of an Autobot." What. (5) Last one, I promise: Could someone *please* draw Prime and Bee attempting to board a roller coaster? I mean, those lap bars would so not click securely for their safety.

Well then. Sorry for that rant. That's about it for now.

I might have had my last day at one of my jobs today... but I'm not sure. That probably sounded strange to just about everyone, but it's the truth. I have no idea what's going on with my home nursing job right now, but I was quitting this month anyway. All I have to say is thank gosh I have another full-time job or I'd be screwed financially. Hooray for me finally having JUST ONE job! There will be no more excuses--I'll have nothing better to do than draw, right?

Just in case there's not an emoticon for it, I'll tell you now: I'm giddy.
